WestWater have recently completed the design, supply and installation of upgrades to the Polymer Dosing System at Denmark Water Treatment Plant (WTP), located in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia.
WestWater have installed a new BASF 50T EconoPak Polymer Batching Unit, refurbished the roof and ceiling of the chemical building, installed a new FRP grid mesh floor inside the chemical building, and ancillary equipment, pipework and instrumentation required for the new batching unit. This new system has also been integrated into the existing plant control system, which has PLC and SCADA capabilities for remote monitoring.
The improved poly dosing system allows better optimisation of the water treatment process, and brings the system into compliance with current Water Corporation Standards.
As the existing chemical building was quite old, there was a risk to WestWater’s construction team of encountering asbestos during the roof removal works. This risk was closely managed and controlled by WestWater throughout the planning and construction phases of the project. The sub-contractor engaged to complete the roof removal and reinstatement works was also qualified to identify and safety remove asbestos from site.
The FRP grid mesh “floating floor” was installed on top of the existing smooth wood flooring in the chemical building to prevent any potential slip hazards to operators. Spillage of wet polymer can create an extremely slippery service, which can be hazardous to operators working in the immediate area.
